The New Barns

Hertfordshire

This design is for 4 new dwellings in a rural part of Hertfordshire. The homes are clustered together in a courtyard – which echoes the rural farmstead typologies in the region.

The architectural language, character and choice of materials of the proposed buildings draws upon a detailed study of the domestic and (formerly) agricultural architecture (now converted to
residential use) in the immediate area. The proposed architectural features and detailing has picked up on historic buildings in the area too. Yet the
interiors are spacious and contemporary – offering the possibility of aspirational modern living.

  • 4 generous family dwellings;
  • Courtyard cluster of buildings, designed to nestle into the landscape rural setting;
  • Generous, contemporary spaces enjoying views of the neighbouring paddocks and woodland
  • Generous landscape design deals with SuDs and local drainage whilst creating a biodiverse wildlife habitat.
