Middlesex University – Trent Park

Trent Park, London

A University’s ability to attract students and staff in an increasingly competitive market place is enhanced by the provision of a high quality and successful environment. The Trent Park campus offers a unique opportunity to provide state of the art university facilities within an historic country park setting.

Through a design-led approach, we negotiated an agreement in principle with English Heritage for a threefold increase in floorspace on this green belt campus. This enabled the university to combine its 21st century requirements with the demands of a sensitive historic environment.

  • ‘Green’ Campus conceived as part of a rolling landscape
  • Restoration and enhancement of the historic buildings and landscape
  • Removal of insensitive post war development
  • Fusion of new and old to create a distinctive campus
  • Creation of 44,000 sq m of academic and ancillary floorspace
  • Loose fit, long life flexible building typologies
  • Residences for 1,000 students
  • Annual Passive Heat Storage Buildings – integrating buildings and landscape
  • Low cost in use Earth sheltered buildings
